My daughter was admitted to QMC after a week of sickness, leaving her dehydrated and needing IV fluid. We spent around 3-4 hours in a+e, we were triaged quickly and dealt with promptly despite it being busy! We were then taken to the children's assessment unit, who then decided she needed to stay in.
They didn't have any side rooms available on the ward she could have moved to (contagious so needed a room), so stayed overnight on the assessment ward. It's obvious they were very busy, but she was well looked after and we were treated respectfully too. They were keen for discharge as soon as they felt she was ok, due to needing the bed but also made it clear if I wasn't happy to take her home then that was ok!
Overall, lovely knowledgeable staff, both night and day staff, nice doctors as well that came to review her.. good experience despite the pressure they are under with lots of winter admissions and lack of beds etc.
Thanks all!
"Lovely knowledgeable staff"
