I went to request an inhaler for my asthma, was told I needed to come in for a review.
As I work Monday to Friday, have childcare commitments the only day that I would be able to attend was Friday after 4pm or extended hours access on Monday.
Was told nil appointment available, will have to book time off for a routine Appointment or ring on the day to book an appointment for extended access the following week.
Surely in this day of electronic opportunity there is a smarter way to ensure that I can do this.
What about a questionnaire, what about a telephone appointment with an allied healthcare professional, which if there is a pressing concern would prompt a clinic appointment.
To ensure that I get my preventer inhaler which is controlling my symptoms on time when I need it. Otherwise, I am wasting an urgent walk in or on the day Appointment for a non-urgent issue.
Why is the practices not helping patients, do want we need to do, in a timely manner.
No wonder there is such an increase in GP workload when the systems in the practice encourage an urgent appointment, rather than finding alternative systems which are not only patient friendly but reduce workload pressures from there practice.
