"No access to Hospital at Home in Edinburgh"

About: Lothian Community Services Western General Hospital / General Medicine

(as a carer),

My frail elderly relative is now on 5th emergency hospital admission in as many weeks for a long term condition that does not require surgery. Her acute pain cannot be treated in the community/at home as Hospital at Home is not yet available in this area. Outcomes for the patient & family, GPs and acute services would be better if these admissions could be avoided.

I am sorry about this - I understand your frustration and how upsetting it must be for you all. The setting up of hospital at home services has been a bit of a challenge and you're right to be upset that this service hasn't been available to all. The good news is that hospital at home will cover the whole of Edinburgh from mid-December.

I will pass this on to the service planners as well.
