I am a cancer patient under the care of Dr Chakraborti from the Clinical Oncology Team and I am currently receiving Chemotherapy at the Sunrise unit at High Wycombe. At the beginning of October 2019 while monitoring my temperature I noted that it was 38 degrees and climbing. My blood pressure was also very high. On contacting the Triage Line at Stoke Mandeville I was advised to attend casualty as soon as possible using the Neutropenic Sepsis Alert Card guidelines.
On arrival at casualty I was informed the Triage team had rung ahead and I was booked in immediately before being ushered into a side waiting room away from the busy waiting area. This reassured me greatly regarding infection. The Triage Nurse saw me within a few minutes and my bloods, urine and full checks were taken. I was then taken into a sterile side room where I was placed on an IV antibiotic drip, all within 30 minutes of arriving. Your RED CARD system is excellent and the procedure worked exactly as it had been explained to me at first consultation.
Later that evening I was moved to Ward 5 where I received excellent care for the next three days. I found the doctors and nursing staff to be so caring, attentive and professional. Likewise auxiliary, voluntary and cleaning staff could not do enough.
Once my neutrophil count was at a safe level I was discharged.
We hear so many bad things about the NHS but your whole RED CARD procedure and staff were a credit to the NHS, thank you.
"Your Red Card system is excellent"
