I attended an out patient appointment in ENT today with my mum. My mum has suffered from chronic OCD her whole adult life and was very anxious about her appointment for weeks. As such she asked me to attend with her for support. When she was asked to come in I was told I could not go with her as the room was too small, we quickly explained the situation but we're still told it was not possible. My mum went in alone and reported the staff were very kind and helpful but she was visibly shaking when she came out. I am an NHS clinician myself and understand we are all pushed for space but the patients experience should be as positive as possible and I felt once we explained more effort should have been made to accommodate my mum.
Thank you
