"Told I may have a personality disorder, then discharged without confirmation or treatment"

About: Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

(as the patient),

Was told I 'probably' had borderline personality disorder by my CMHN, then discharged 3 days later.

My CMHN came to see me and we discussed lowering my drug use, and at the end of the appointment I asked about personality disorders, as depression shouldn't last for 8 years. The CMHN then described borderline personality disorder and said that in the time we had worked together, it seemed likely that this was the cause of my problems. I said I would stop taking drugs immediately to help with the diagnosis of this condition.

3 days later I received a call to say I was being discharged and referred to a drug and alcohol service. I was taken back by this on the phone, so accepted this and only really thought about it after the call. 5 minutes after the call I had thought it through and wanted to know why I wasn't being sent for an assessment for this personality disorder, however I was not able to get through on the phone. 5 days of emails and leaving messages for the CMHN to call me have resulted in 0 phone calls and an unbelievable amount of distress - and yet I've managed to stay drug-free.

How can someone tell me I probably have a personality disorder then decide to discharge me? The possibility of this diagnosis has made me think through every event in my life and panic about the damage I have done to my personal and family relationships, yet I'm left stuck with no help, and a referral to a drug clinic while I'm not using drugs.

I can't talk to my family about this because of the mention of drugs, and I have no other support network in place, as my CMHN was my support network.

I have started self harming again, and have been suicidal for almost the entirety of the last 5 days, all because they won't speak to me because I've been discharged.

So in summary; I no longer know what's wrong with me, I no longer have any mental health support,  and it's all due to the CMHT.

What am I supposed to do?

Update posted by Why have you put me through this (the patient)

Hi Josef,

I know it's been a while since you responded to this, however I have been busy trying to arrange the support I need. I finally do have some support, but I had to send emails to St Marys, Aire Court, PALS, and the personality disorder network, fill in multiple self-referrals, get rejected from those referrals, then chase all of these departments up in order to arrange this. That shouldn't be up to me - it's obvious I'm not well - why am I having to work so hard to get myself treated?

I don't really want to discuss this and go through it all again, but I still feel this is something that needs to be addressed, as treating people with severe mental health issues like this will end in suicide(s).

Please take the original post as a complaint, and get your team to treat it as such, but I can't go through it all again over the phone. All the info you need is there, except who I am, and I am willing to give you a call to clarify the personal details (only).

Thanks
