"Waiting time for lab results post biopsy"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / General Medicine (Wards 9-12) University Hospital Wishaw / Dermatology

(as a service user),

I was referred to Medical Imaging by my GP. I had an appointment within 3 days and within 2 weeks I had had a dermatology consultation and a biopsy.  This whole initial process was exceptionally quick. At this time, I was told it was a possible basal cell carcinoma but this would have to be confirmed by a biopsy.

I was told the wait for results would be 6-8 weeks. I have now been waiting 9 weeks and I still haven't received any results or communication.

After checking with the secretary, I was told the results were in with routine samples in the lab. It has been an anxious wait for results and I feel this is an exceptional waiting time for a query cancer diagnosis.

Dear margaret136

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience during the attendance at your Dermatology appointment. I am pleased to hear that the initial appointment and biopsy was undertaken exceptionally quickly. I am also grateful for you taking the time to highlight the delay in receiving the results timely following the biopsy.

I am saddened to hear of the time you have been waiting especially as you have been advise of the possibility of this being a basal cell carcinoma.

To help me look into this further on the reason for sending the biopsy sample as routine, I would be grateful if you could get in contact with myself on 07919 308692 or 01236 712333 to get some more information to help improve and review the whole process.

Warmest Regards

Lynn
