"Tooth extraction"

About: Glasgow Dental Hospital and School / Dental

(as a parent/guardian),

5 year old son was in to get a tooth out. I made it known to the dental staff that my son was worried and anxious about the procedure. The team were great to begin with, talking us through the process but they then started to hurry the procedure. They gave him the numbing gel, didn’t give it long to set before giving the injection, which they also didn’t give enough time to set in. Despite my son screaming in pain, they continued with the extraction and repeatedly told him to calm down, as if he hadn’t just had a tooth out without proper pain relief.   This would be a traumatic experience for anyone but for a child whose only experience at the dentist is check ups and fluoride varnish. Disgusting behaviour from the staff, who it seemed couldn’t get us out the door fast enough either. The anesthesia didn’t kick in until we were 10/15 minutes away from the dental hospital.

Dear Mjay,

I am very sorry that this has been your Son's experience at Glasgow Dental Hospital and in order to provide you with a full response it would be useful to have more details.

I would be grateful if you could contact me either by telephone on 0141 232 6303 or by email at Jackie.Wilson@ggc.scot.nhs.uk in order that I can look into this further for you.

Kind Regards
