"how my grandmother got treated.."

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Elderly Medicine (Wards 51, 52, 54,55, 57, 8a & 2a)

(as a relative),

Hi. My grandmother was admitted in to the Langlands building in QEUH in September. Let me tell you the experience we had with the ward nurses.

We felt the nurses were acting racist. they would give us dirty looks. Also before my gran passed away she told us how the nurses treated her, that they would not give her water when she asked! !

It seemed she was drugged up with codeine the whole time she stayed in there. She was knocked out the whole time and was so confused. This is a woman that knew each member of her family and when she was admitted in there she had no clue who was who. We are so disappointed in the care they say they did.

All I can say is she only had a problem with her leg, she had a diabetic bullae - but then how did she get sent to the coronary care unit in bute and pass away.  I believe their actions led her to have pneumonia. We don't believe they treated anything and that they just kept giving her codeine! They never took care of her.

Dear Butt89

Please accept my sincerest condolences on the loss of your Grandmother. I appreciate that it will not have been easy to share your story at this difficult time.

We are really concerned to hear about your Grandmother’s and family’s experience. It is clear that you have concerns around the care your Grandmother received. We would welcome the opportunity to meet with you to help address these concerns, as well as answer any questions which you feel are still unresolved. Can you please contact Stewart Gaw, General Manager, for Older People Services on 0141 451 6430 to arrange a meeting.

Kind Regards

Morag Gardner

Chief Nurse – South Sector
