"Huge Discrepancy Between Surgical Team and..."

About: Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust

I had the Rezum surgery (Urology) on 17th Oct at the Riverside S Ward at Charing Cross Hospital. The whole team was brilliant, caring and efficient. Unfortunately, the next day,18th Oct, the catheter came off and in the midst of the pain, mess and worry as a senior citizen living on my own, I rang Urology telephone numbers 020 3313 0046/47 as detailed on discharge leaflet, the receptionist twice forwarded me to other extensions and I left voice mails with my contact number and also sent an email for urgent advice on how to treat this unpredicted condition with the catheter completely detached.

NO REPLY whatsoever came back even after 4 days.

I am glad I am robust and practical as I dread to think what would have happened to some other patient more frail and incapable.

I am so impressed by the surgical team the previous day but so disappointed that the front line emergency advice I tried to seek was ignored by the same department in the Outpatient unit.

I am not after any compensation but I think it is important for the Trust to know the discrepancy that exists even within the same department's service. I reiterate how impressive I thought the surgical and nursing team was at the RS theatre on 17th Oct. Thank you.
