I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in September last year.
The speed at which I was treated was breathtaking, from the time I saw the reconstruction surgeon (who is brilliant!) it was less than two weeks before I was in theatre.
All the staff were wonderful, from the Macmillian nurses, the doctors, nurses and auxilliary nurses. Ward D27 was clean and the food was good as well. Whilst I could have done without having the cancer, I feel I have been incredible lucky to have had such wonderful care and ongoing support.
Incidentally, the operation removed all the cancer and it had not spread to the lymph nodes, so I did not need any radio and chemo therapy. The surgeon has set up his own support group for women who have had reconstructive surgery and it is a very useful to be able to talk to other women who have gone through a similar experience, and to let newer patients, or those awaiting surgery, to have the benefit of my own experience.
