"Braxted Ward"

About: Broomfield Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as a relative),

My Auntie was in this ward for a week in August. Firstly the system of a dedicated Nurse to a patient hasn't worked because if that Nurse isnt around no one else will help. There are plenty of staff so should all deal with everyone.

I must add one Nurse did help us when we showed her the Cannula was hanging out and she was extremely helpful and pleasant. The Ward is shown as "care for the elderly' totally inaccurate. I tried to ask a simple question from a senior at the Nurse station and I can honestly say I felt "abused' in the same way the posters refer to treatment of staff! They were rude, shouted and would not help and other people experienced this attitude. My Auntie had dementia and wasnt aware of her surroundings.

50 plus years ago I visited my Granny regularly at another location and her food was always sitting on a trolley out of reach so I fed her. I was absolutely appalled that all these years later this practice is still the same. I was told by my Auntie's dedicated Nurse that Auntie wouldnt eat and it wasnt helping - she couldnt eat the food was left on a trolley out of reach exactly as my Granny. I fed her and she ate. If the trolley was across the bed she might put her hand out and get it, she could smell it and tempt her then they come round and clear it up. How in this day can such treatment still be allowed on a lady coming up for 101, very frail and dementia.
