I had been bleeding heavily for about two weeks. I ended up going to urgent care and they advised me to see my GP for a referral. There is a history of endometriosis in my family. I ended up back at A&E at Croydon University Hospital because the bleeding was now making me feel dizzy. The doctor I saw was incredible. She contacted the gynae team, and prescribed iron tablets as I was anaemic. I went back to my GP who conducted an exam. She sent a referral, and within two weeks I had been booked in for an ultrasound, which highlighted polyps and a cyst. I was then booked in to see a gynaecological consultant. He had me booked in for a hysteroscopy within two weeks. He explained that there might be some discomfort, but this would be minor, and temporary. I was given full information, and also advised that general anaesthetic would be an option if necessary. The day of the procedure I took over the counter painkillers. The team were reassuring, and extremely patient with me. They told me what was happening every step of the way, even telling me when I might feel discomfort. I had some minor cramping afterwards, but just took painkillers when I got home. They were able to diagnose fibroids, and told me these would be removed under general anaesthetic. A week later I had the surgery. I’m three days post op, and apart from some expected discomfort I’m doing well.
I would like to thank each member of the staff I’ve encountered over the last few weeks personally....You have been amazing!,....Thank you Croydon University Hospital.
