"Waiting for a discharge"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Neurosurgery (Ward 64 – 66)

(as the patient),

I was supposed to have an operation my neck (bulging disks) in August. I was in the hospital bed, doctor came to see me and said they have decided NOT to do the operation....fine.

I had a lumbar MRI to find out why I have horrendous pain, (I can't stand due to the pain/numbness at the front of my thigh, sitting down stops it)  which they said was clear, but it wasn't I found out later. There are a few issues, I'm in agony, and have been in floods of tears. I have hyperreflexia as per the report. My own GP has referred me back to neurology, getting nowhere, telephone calls to a lovely secretary who has helped immensely, apparently I'm being sent to an ESP, had to google what that was. I can't even get an appointment (i can only do Monday's) because I haven't been discharged as yet, I do understand everybody is busy, but this has been going on since August, and not a call/letter either to me or my own GP. This is all getting a bit much.

Thank you for your reply. I called that number and was told that wasn't the correct number, I was put through to the correct no I'm guessing, nobody there, voicemail for someone else, I called back again and was given the actual no 0141 201 2833 and the phone was slammed down, wouldn't let me explain. I have called the other number again and left my details to call me back.

Update.

I emailed Julie.Marshall, and received a reply, I understand that Mr Bhattathiri will return on 28th October and this will be prioritised on his return.

I had the final discharge letter from Mr Kumar through the post to me today, saying that the follow up ESP can take up to between 3-6 months.

Thanks again

Corsa.

Good afternoon

I am still waiting on a call back regarding the issues I have with the final discharge letter and the inconsistencies it has thrown up. I understand my concerns were going to be passed on and someone would come back to me.

Dear Elaine

I had spoken to Lisa on Monday, before I was heading off to see the ESP person, Lisa had said let her know how I got on. Id put a lot of faith into this appointment, from what I had been reading about ESP's.

I must admit I wasn't that impressed, the lady was nice enough, did a couple of tests ie my reflexes etc, asked me questions regarding my symptoms, one in particular annoyed me, she asked about my balance (which is bad) I started to answer and mentioned the last physio had said..... and before I finished the sentence, she said, forget about physio...

She showed me the mri scans and explained about them, then said ok, will see you in 6-9 months and that was it.

I called Lisa, to convey how it went.

Kind regards

Corsa

Dear Corsa

I am sorry to hear that your appointment was unsatisfactory. I know that you have had several conversations with Lisa and I think it would be helpful if we could continue this conversation off line. If you want to give Nicole from the Patient Experience Team a call to discuss her number is 0141 201 0309.

Thank you

Elaine Burt
