I was admitted to Summerfield ward for the duration of 5 nights. During this time I was meant to have regular observations due to post pregnancy complications. Due to lack of staff I had to wait on regular occasion for up to an hour to have these checks. Staff Nurse attitude wasn’t always pleasant which led to my already low emotional state becoming worse. My bed sheets were not changed in the 5 nights that I slept there. I felt isolated in a single room where no one came to check how I was feeling at a time where I was separated from my baby that was in neonatal unit and due to distance I didn’t always have visitors.
The student midwife was a great support to me during my time, engaging in regular conversation and reassurance as well as attending to my needs.
As a patient I put all these issues down to staffing issues putting pressure on the nursing staff which therefore led to lack of time and affected staff attitude towards their job role.
