"Brought into a&e by ambulance with heart rate..."

About: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital

I have been in hospital a few times over the past few weeks. First time I was taken in by ambulance and the ambulance crew was extremely nice and caring.

For 3 days or so I was in a&e (back home for 5 days maybe) then had an appointment with my gp and she said I needed to go straight back up to a&e for my fast heart rate, saying even if by the time I got there it had returned to normal she wanted me to get checked out. When I arrived I actually became a lot worse quite quickly with fever, vomiting and I was so breathless with such a high heart rate and tinted yellow skin that I actually thought I would die. I was kept in a&e and ccu for two nights and then spent almost a week in cardiology. The nurses in cardiology are amazing and so caring. I would extremely recommend them and they were constantly monitoring my heart and wouldn’t let me go home until my resting heart rate was bellow 100, as they said higher than that is dangerous for my age (18).

So I went home, when I was at home I was having chest pain and could feel my heart so much on and off, I gave it a day but my second day after returning home I decided I would ring 111 for advice. I told them everything and they sent an ambulance who checked me and my heart was going from 115-140 up and down a lot when they decided I should be taken into hospital. They told me that could be dangerous for me and were very nice and reassuring when I mentioned how I don’t want to waste anyones time.

I got to a&e and they left me after I got into a bed where I had a few ecg’s done. Then I was told that I needed to stay and had a canula inserted into my hand and a wristband put on. I arrived in a&e at 5:30pm and then was sent to have bloods taken and was sat on this uncomfortable wooden chair, feeling extremelly awful for many hours, until eventually at around 11pm I was finally taken into the emergency decision room and was checked very occasionally (pulse rate, blood pressure and temperature). My heart wasn’t being monitored, like it was when I stayed in cardiology. The entire time I felt very poorly. I was given paracetamol and told to not stress (which I wasn’t!) and drink water. I was finally discharged at 2:30am (when everyone who would be able to fetch me was asleep and public transport is costly because of where I am located). When I was there my resting pulse rate didn’t go below 118 bpm, which I have been told by everyone else I have seen over the few weeks is too high for my age. The doctor who saw me said I can be discharged as my blood tests where okay and my heart rate is only a bit high. He didn’t give any medication or advice on what to do if I feel my heart going too fast again! So I was just told to come back if my pulse is faster then 130 bpm, resting. It is like that almost constantly at the moment and so I feel stumped and like I should have had my heart monitored for at least the day! I feel unsatissfied and my heart still feels too fast and I now don’t feel I can ring for help.
