"Doctor giving bad news"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Respiratory Medicine Stracathro Hospital / Radiology

(as a relative),

In July, My Mother was a patient in Ninewells Hospital, Dundee being investigated for lung problems. We got told the day before that she was being discharged, but she would need a Scan before discharge. My Mother phoned me at approximately 9am saying a doctor had been round, and told her she had cancer and also spots on her liver that would need to be investigated too, using the phrase you have cancer. She was understandably upset and myself too. I was also VERY angry that this doctor told her this information on her own, with no relative with her. She was on her own for nearly 3 hour before I managed to get from Aberdeen to Dundee to see her.

We saw another doctor in the afternoon who was lovely. Informed us it may be infection or it may be something sinister but they had to advise us. It is now months later and after several tests it has shown it was just a severe infection, I would like to mention Susan the Lung Specialist Nurse who has spoken to myself and my mother and has explained every step very well, has a lovely, reassuring manner, and also the staff in the radiology department at Stracathro Hospital
