"Special care baby unit"

About: Cumberland Infirmary

Myself and my friend went to the hospital on Saturday 28tg sep 19 to take baby cardigans that had been knitted to the special care baby unit, I was astounded how easy it was to get on to the ward, no one asked us who we were and why we were there, the Dr buzzers just let us in with out asking on the drwho we were, we walked onto the ward, the sister was talking to a mum that was visiting her baby and went to walk away wen finished, until I said excuse me where do I take this?? Her reply oh sorry I thought u was with thst lady, unbelievable no one asked us, this is so scary that our baby's are put at risk like this, sort out ur security

Dear Julie,

Thank you for your contact via this website and alerting us to this security incident.

Our hospital does have strict policy in place for access to the Special Care Baby Unit and on your visit to the ward on Saturday 28th September it clearly breached…

We do value all feedback and these concerns will immediately be passed to Matron so that she can issue a reminder to all staff on the importance of checking the identity of everyone who visits the unit.

I do want to thank you for identifying yourself to Sister and off course for the gift of baby cardigans which will have been very much appreciated.

With our best regards,

Alison S-D
