Long wait for a routine procedure in a very busy hospital unit.
I attended the haematology department for a routine blood test. The waiting room was full; all seats taken, with other patients standing. When I took a 'waiting list' ticket there were 43 patients waiting to be seen before it would be my turn. By the time I was seen for my blood test the number of patients waiting to be seen had not decreased.
The staff drawing the blood were very efficient but to me seemed overworked; I asked whether this was an exceptionally busy day and staff replied that this was the norm.
The unit appears badly understaffed and the waiting room is inadequate for purpose.
