"There was no communication"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / General Medicine (Wards 5 & 8)

(as a relative),

My dr arranged a medical admission for my mother of 84 years old. When we arrived in the hospital we were told that there was no space in the ward for us to go to and would have to wait. We were taken in by a nurse who wasn’t interested just wanted to tell us that we wouldn’t be seen soon and there was no beds. There was NO communication for 8 hours, I approached the reception staff numerous times and was told that there was still no beds. No drink no food was offered in that time. I feel that animals are treated better than we were as patients.

Dear disgruntled daughter,

I was concerned to read of the poor experience of your Mum while attending as an emergency.

These are not the standards of care that we expect and to help me understand the timeline and processes of her journey as well as to support learning I would be grateful if you could provide additional details to our patient affairs manager by e mail to Yvonne.ross@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk.

This will allow a targeted investigation into your posting.

Once again sincere apologies for this poor experience.

Best wishes

Andy
