"I’m grateful for all the support I’ve had"

About: Astley Ainslie Hospital Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Gynaecology St John's Hospital / General Medicine

(as a service user),

I just want to share how grateful I am to the staff that are involved in my care. Since I had surgery in August I’ve been looked after well by the Endometriosis Team at EXPPECT.

I’ve had support from Psychology and Pain Management at the Astley Ainslie Hospital. I just want to say how kind the psychologist Sarah is she has been very understanding through what has been a difficult time over the last couple of months.

I ended up in Gynae Triage a few weeks ago as I was sent up by my Gp as she wasn’t happy about how I was doing. I was seen very quickly, the nursing staff were great and very attentive. They listened to me and got tests sorted within an hour. They were very busy but they always checked in to see how I was doing. The sonographer that did my scan was great she explained things and reassured me throughout explaining what she could see on the screen. I was glad to have answers as to what was flaring my pain up as I was worried due to being post op from endometriosis surgery. I contacted my consultants secretary to see if I could arrange to see my consultant sooner than February 2020. Wendy was really understanding and said she would see what she could do and I received a letter with an appointment a week later for December.

I had an appointment today with Dr Harrington (Pain Clinic) at St John’s Hospital in the Day Surgery Unit. The staff in the Day Surgery Unit were kind (thanks to the charge nurse who helped me as I was unsure if I was in the right place as I’d never been to the DSU) I arrived early for my appointment and was taken early which was a bonus as I had to get the train back to Edinburgh. I found my appointment with Lorraine really helpful. She took the time to listen to me and made suggestions about increasing a medication I take if my pain was to flare up. She was really thorough reading through my notes on TRAK and reassured me that if I have issues with pain at any point my GP or consultant could email and refer me back to see her. It really makes such a difference when you feel listened to and someone understands. I’m grateful for all the support I’ve had.

Dear Dionnex

Thank you so much for sharing your feedback with us following your recent appointments.

It sounds as though these last few months have not been easy for you.

I was really pleased to read how all the different staff have been able to support you in the different services. It is so important that as staff we listen to what people tell us so that we can plan care and reassure people in what can be an uncertain or stressful time.

Thank you so much for identifying those people that have really made a difference to you. I will share your feedback with them and l am sure they will be delighted to read your kind words.

With best wishes

Jeannette
