"Too disorganised"

About: Doncaster Royal Infirmary / Ear, Nose and Throat

My appointment was made with ENT where I saw a lovely consultant about my operation.

She was attentive and explained things very well.

The problems arose when organising my Pre-Op and Theatre appointment was then handed over to the admin staff.

I had repeatedly said not to book an appointment with little to no warning so that I can arrange not only childcare but also time off work/cover for my absence.

I repeatedly asked for a future appointment to be made however sadly I was not listened to on all four occasions I raised this.

Often I would get a letter land on my floor when I arrived home on a Friday to say I'm expected in on Monday, giving me zero time to prepare.

Having had the same experience 4 times I lost patience with the department as they were clearly not listening to me.

This was solidified by receiving a phone call from the secretary to say "I have you down as having surgery tomorrow" which I explained "this was the first I had heard of it".

The team then proceeded to bombard my phone with call after call after call leaving me not one but three voicemails asking for a call back when I was at work with clients and couldn't answer.

13 missed calls within the space of 45 mins to be precise, followed by 5 follow calls from 7am the following day, precisely when I'm driving to work and cannot answer my phone (it presented to me as someone had made a royal screw up and was desperately trying to cover their tracks).

A day later I received a letter which was sent to my GP and copied to me stating I'd refused appointments and not shown up for surgery which was an outrageous LIE.

The problem was they were scheduling future appointments, but not telling me until the last minute which defeats the whole point.

Very poor communication and very poor organisational skills.

It also suggest a sheer lack of empathy.

I was happy to have my care returned to my GP where I will be requesting to be referred to Sheffield.

I will not be going near DRI in future.

I expect better from a hospital.
