"I feel totally let down"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as a service user),

I feel totally let down by NHS Fife and the treatment provided during my ongoing vision loss in one eye, due to a posterior subcapsular cataract that has developed rapidly.

Throughout my dealings with staff at QMH Dunfermline I have been left feeling a nuisance and detected little empathy or compassion from them with regard to my condition and their reply to my requests for information are usually met with reply of "this is a very busy clinic".

It is now the end of September. Three calendar months since my referral for cataract surgery. A phone call yesterday for a status update was the last straw. Still no dates available and probably looking at late November for availability. This on a supposed urgent referral!

I now feel left with no choice but to get finance and have it done privately due to the effect on my work and loss of earnings, not to mention the treatment I am now receiving for mental health issues because of the sight loss.

I would have done this back in June had I known how NHS Fife would treat me.

Dear Bero

Thank you for posting on Care Opinion.

I was really sorry to read about your sight loss and the effect that this is having on your work and your mental health. I was also sad to read that you feel let down and that staff have not been empathetic or helpful when you have asked for information.

I would be grateful if you would contact me directly on 01592 643355 ext 20148 to allow me to look into this for you.

I look forward to speaking to you soon.

Kind regards
