"Missed Call"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Neurosurgery (Ward 64 – 66)

(as a service user),

I'm on the 'urgent' neurosurgery appointment list. I've been on it since early July. and I've said that I can accept appointments at short notice. NHSGGC called at just after 8am but as it only rang 3 times, I didn't answer in time. You did not leave a message. I've called your booking office who directed me to the neuro appointment number but it's just a messaging service.

It's bad enough wondering what's going on with my health but to call a patient and leave no message is not at all helpful. I had a bone scan also so don't know if it was them that called.

Dear Pingas Mum,

I am really sorry that you have had a worrying time since receiving the call this morning. Please accept our apologies for this.

I would be grateful if you could call my PA on 0141 232 1876 and let her know your details and I will ask the Neuro team to clarify the appointment position directly with you.

Regards

Update posted by Pinga's Mum (a service user)

Dear Mrs Burt,

Thank you for your reply - this is much appreciated. I'd been in good health until the start of the year when I experienced tinnitus. I had an MRI/MRA with contrast but ENT said I only had a plain MRI, which was 'normal'. It turns out someone lost my MRA (and MRI) with contrast results. I was told ''the machine only holds 3 weeks of results, after which they get deleted''.

A few months later my GP sent me to QEUH acute receiving unit as he thought I had a brain bleed. I was made to wait 5.5 hours before I was seen. I handed in a hand written letter of complaint but nothing came of it.

My symptoms were/are - daily headaches/numbness/dizziness, so after another couple of scans, which were done via the ARU, I was told by letter, that I have a brain aneurysm.

I've been waiting since my diagnosis to have my questions answered. One question - if at the start of the year I'm 'normal' but a few months later I have a brain aneurysm, do I have a fast growing aneurysm?

I have a strong family history of fatal brain bleeds.

Yours sincerely,

Pinga's Mum
