"Support in the early pregnancy unit"

About: Royal Preston Hospital / Gynaecology

I have visited the early pregnancy care unit twice in the past 2 years. the first time was through A&E as they discovered my pregnancy was ectopic. On arrival to the department I was support by the ward sister, she was great with me she supported me and gave me options and made me feel supported, she stayed and settled me in to a side room and made sure I had everything and left late from her shift to make sure my needs was taken care of. I couldn't thank her enough for her support at this time for what myself and my partner was going through. This was in September 2017.

After having an ectopic when or if you are to get pregnant again you need a scan at 6 weeks to make sure the fetus is in the correct place as you are high risk of having another ectopic. Fast forward to June 2019 I found myself pregnant again we had mixed emotions as it had taken so long to get pregnant again but we booked for our scan. When we in the waiting room the same ward sister walked past and she recognised us after all that time, she checked that we was ok to which we had just had our scan and found everything was as it should be, which she was happy for us.

A few weeks later we found ourselves back at the unit to find the babies heart beat had stopped. The same ward sister was on shift and again supported us through this time, she was absolutely fantastic at yet another emotional time for us. She sat with us and took her time and never rushed us. She gave us options. As this was our 3 pregnancy loss in 2.5 years, the 1st loss I had at Blackpool and the treatment we received was shocking. She informed us options and our next steps. I couldn't thank her enough, they have a tough job to do as many women suffer pregnancy loss every day yet she made us feel supported at this time. Thanks for all you do..
