"My son's first visit to hospital"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

Myself and my son Jack were very anxious about his blood test, he has a phobia of doctors and was very worried about having a needle put in his hand. The two nurses were amazing, they kept myself and son really calm and the way they positioned Jack on my knee he couldn’t see what they were doing, Jack was so surprised when they said it was all done. He didn’t even know they had done it!

Jack will need to have a general anaesthetic for a small procedure soon and I feel confident that after such a successful blood test he won’t be so worried about having a cannula put in.

The EMLA cream that was applied an hour before also really helped, we called it the magic cream! Thankyou so much to the two nursing staff for making Jacks experience of a hospital visit, not a scary one.

Thank you for your kind words and feedback on your experience at Clinic 5. I'm really pleased you and Jack had such a positive experience when visiting Clinic 5 for a blood test. We strive hard to ensure that all children and parents have a good experience when coming to us for an appointment as we are aware that coming for a blood test can be scary for children and an anxious time for parents. I will pass your feedback on to the team in Clinic 5. I'm pleased that Jack and yourself will not worry about his upcoming procedure and very happy that Clinic 5 staff have played a part in this reassurance. All the best for a speedy recovery from his upcoming procedure.

Kind regards

Karen
