"Waiting 13 days for blood test results"

About: Wokingham Medical Centre

I have been feeling very poorly for the last few months and saw a doctor on 5th August, we agreed it wasn't my under active thyroid problem so they recommended blood test for other reasons,

I was then too poorly for the next few weeks but finally got to Bracknell on the 3rd September. The results arrived at the surgery the next dat and I received a text message from the doctor to ring them as they wanted to speak to me about the results. I tried at various times but they weren't either in that day or too busy. I went into the surgery to ask at reception if they would tell me the results, they were very kind and understanding but they were not allowed to tell me anything other than 'it's not life threatening so try not to worry'.

I then received another message from the doctor to say please ring and make a telephone call arrangement. So I did which was a week ahead on the 13th September - I missed the doctors call and I did try to return the call and eventually after a long wait on the phone was told in reception that I hadn't been 'crossed out' which means she would call again later. I did not receive a call even though I was holding my phone for the rest of the day. Is there a way that the Practice Manager can tell me what the results were?

I totally understand that the surgery are overwhelmed by so many new patients but there must be a more efficient way to handle this awful situation. It costs us money to hold onto the phone waiting to get an appointment and most people are too busy to waste hours of their life trying to see a doctor. The best way is to drive up to the surgery, pay for a car park and go to reception, I find the staff there are very sympathetic and are always kind and polite, I understand their hands are tied but I do think someone in authority could tell me my blood tests results.

I'm sorry for the length of this story but I am an anxious old lady generally so please can somebody just tell me the results even in a text would be fine.

Dear Patient,

Thank you for your feedback, we would like to investigate this situation further to understand the wording of the message you were sent.

We are sorry that you were not offered a push doctor consultation when you phoned in as they are able to discuss test results with you, we offer Push doctor appointments everyday so would have been able to reduce your waiting time. We will remind our team members to offer these appointments so that we can reduce the waiting time, especially for patients who are anxious. Also, if you would like to contact us we can add your explicit consent for messaging you details about your blood test results to you medical record.

Kind regards

Wokingham Medical Centre
