I was booked in to be induced to have my baby boy safely as I was suffering from mild preeclampsia. The staff on the ante natal ward were very welcoming and made sure I had everything I needed and kept me up to date with what was happening.
I wish I could remember the names of the midwives who helped me through my labour and delivery in the labour ward as they were superstars and made it such a calming and wonderful experience.
I was unfortunate to have to attend theatre after delivery for repair but the staff that cared for me there talked to me throughout the procedure and put my nerves at ease.
I was then moved to post natal ward and again the staff were lovely. The support for breastfeeding is second to none , however it was something that didn’t work out for us.
My one criticism is that there is a lack of support for parents in our position who then choose to bottle feed with formula. With support 24/7 for breastfeeding it now felt like we were left to get on with it ourselves and being first time parents it would have been nice to have some more support in those early days. This isn’t specifically aimed at post natal ward but more so to aftercare.
I really admire all the midwifes and care assistants working in these departments and know the job they do is outstanding. As a health professional myself I have even considered re-training to become a midwife to follow in these women’s footsteps.
Thank you all for all the help and support and I hope to meet you all again when it’s time for baby number 2!
