"Good and bad"

About: Torkard Hill Medical Ctre

I have very mixed views on Torkard Hill. On the one hand they do have a handful of brilliant doctors and nurses. I was diagnosed with colitis a couple of years ago, and the doctor who first saw me was incredibly kind, and I feel very grateful that it was her who I saw. She suspected instantly that I had colitis and ensured I did all the relevant tests and referred me immediately to the specialist gastro team at QMC. However in the same breath, in between seeing that doctor and receiving a proper diagnosis at the QMC, I was patronized on the phone by a different doctor, and had another doctor tell me I'd just had a "nasty tummy bug". I'm a 25 year old woman who knew something was very wrong with my body, not a child with belly ache trying to get off school, which is how I was made to feel. The same type of good and bad applies to the reception staff, who are either friendly and trying their best to help you, or they treat you as if you're an idiot/wasting their time and make snide remarks. In fact, what prompted me to leave this review is that I contacted them today about some very urgent medication I'm waiting for to treat a nasty colitis flare up I'm struggling with. I spoke to one lady at 2.00 who politely explained to me that the prescription had gone through and to call back in a couple of hours as my doctor will hopefully have signed it off by then, as it is marked as urgent. I called back again at 4.00, only to be made to feel ridiculous for having waited just two hours, and to try again in another hour. It probably sounds really minor, but when you're a nervous people pleaser like me who finds it really hard to be pushy, it's just so frustrating to be spoken down to and patronized, even when you're being very polite yourself, especially when it comes to your health. Finally, and the biggest issue with this surgery, you absolutely cannot get an appointment ever. I've got a list of things I probably ought to see a doctor for, but knowing the hassle of it all it just doesn't feel worth it. I wonder how many people with serious issues are not being treated because of this?
