"Mental health service"

About: Leverndale Hospital / Mental Health

(as a parent/guardian),

“My daughter was a recent patient in a Dykebar ward. She has severe anxiety depression and an eating disorder. Whilst there she underwent a feeding plan, to regain physical health. She had medication that was increased and also added to, to address the depression. During her time there she suffered verbal abuse from staff (I was witness to this ) and I feel she was generally treated like a nobody. She asked continuously for psychiatric input and was denied. Upon admission she notified them that she had a previous history of self harm, after an episode of verbal abuse she revisited this. The staff were notified that she again began to self harm.

Some weeks later they announced her discharge, she still had not had a session with either a psychiatrist or psychologist to address the depression or anxiety. At the discharge meeting at which I present at she was told that the self harm was learned behaviour from her time there (clearly her notes had not been read) and was then told she would have a psychiatric appointment sent. No one could answer why it was now suitable when previously it was not. She was also told that she wasn’t depressed merely unhappy! A diagnosis determined without any assessment as the dr in question had only a ten minute chat with during a period of 3 months Nor could it be explained if she wasn’t depressed why had the anti depressant been increased or why had an additional antidepressant been prescribed. Never have I been so disappointed or felt so let down by any NHS service.”

Dear Irate Mother

I am very sorry to read about your daughter’s experience. I can only imagine how worried and upset you must be about your daughter.

I appreciate that you are feeling let down, but would you be able to get in touch with your daughter’s details (with her permission), so that we can look into this further. Can you please email Sheila.Dickson@ggc.scot.nhs.uk with your daughter’s name and date of birth?

Take Care

Nicole
