I recently had a baby in the midwife led unit at QEQM. I can say the midwives that I interacted with were absolutely wonderful. They made me feel confident that I was in good hands and kept me informed at every stage about what was happening and what to expect. I'd especially like to thank Barbara who was brilliant.
One slight issue was that the room was so cold, which I was informed it was a known issue and nothing could be done about (though a lovely person brought me more blankets). I literally had 3 on me on what was quite a warm June day. Secondly they've removed the sofa bed from that particular room, which meant my partner had nowhere to sit as there wasn't even a spare chair. Lastly, I appreciate that the idea of the MLU was to be hands off from medical staff, but a little help with cleanup wouldn't have gone amiss. 6 hours later I was still sitting on my bloodied sheets. Eventually I balled them up myself but nobody changed them before we were discharged another 6 hours later. Having given birth on the labour ward last time I'm not sure if this is normal procedure?
