My ex husabnd who suffers from severe COPD was admitted to ward C6 at the end of October last year with severe breathing difficulties and very low O2 levels. He was placed on a drip and also IV antibiotics. He was then diagnosed with low sodium levels and taken off the drip and antibiotics and placed on restricted fluids. On the Saturday when I went to visit he was sleeping almost constantly. I questioned the nurse looking after him and was assured that the consultants were having a meeting to discuss his further care. On Sunday he was discharged! ! As his named next of kin, I was not informed, neither was the care home where he lives! ! Just arrived by ambulance with discharge notes saying nothing more they could do and palliative treatment! ! I understand that if someone is dying a bed could be better used for someone who could be treated, but to discharge him this way shows a complete lack of empathy. A phone call to explain either to myself or the care home would have meant a lot! Very poor on all levels. Absolutely disgusted and angry.
