"Urine infection while holidaying in Jedburgh"

About: Borders General Hospital / Urology NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service)

(as a service user),

After a pancreatic cancer op I was in hospital for 51 days. I am currently waiting on an operation to repair the connection between my penis and bladder, but in the mean time, I am self catheterising. This leads to frequent urine infections.

I live hundreds of miles away, but was holidaying in Jedburgh, when I took ill with one of these urine infections. I called 111 who advised me to go to Borders General Hospital. I was unwell but not too unwell to drive, so I drove down there and they already knew all about me. Within 10 minutes, the nurse saw me, she asked me all the right questions, did all the tests- she did everything except the blood tests, as she said I would be in and out before the results came back - she was right.

I was treated very well, seen quickly, everything was brilliant. I was quickly put on a course of anti biotics, the same sort I've been on before that suited me well. It was all very good

Dear pavobg65

I am sorry to learn you underwent pancreatic surgery and I do hope your further planned surgery goes well. Frequent urine infections must be very unpleasant and I am pleased you received the care you required quickly. I hope you are doing much better.

It is good of you to share your experience on Care Opinion. I am sure my colleagues within NHS Borders will be delighted with your feedback for their service. The nurse who managed your care sounds like a huge credit to the NHS.

Here at NHS 24 a positive patient/caller experience is one of our top priorities. It is good that we were able to refer you to be seen quickly and your onward care was effective. If you wish to share any further detail in relation to your call to 111, then I would be delighted to hear from you. You can get me on 0141 337 4597 or by email at Patient.Experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk

Thanks again for getting in touch and best wishes for the future.

With kind regards

Shona
