"Palliative care"

About: Victoria Hospital / Respiratory Medicine

(as a relative),

My gran developed the need for palliative care whilst on ward 43 vhk. During this time I witnessed nurses giving her cuddles, spending time listening to her stories and laughing with her.

Then it became clear that my gran was in the last days of her life. Her wish to remain in a bay for as long as she was lucid was respected. When we were moved to a side room and we set up camp we were again witness to the true essence of nursing care. Nurses would come in who were no longer her nurses to share a hug or a hand holding moment with both my gran and my mother and I.

There was nothing too much trouble. The palliative care nurses explained everything well and medications etc were given promptly.

My mother and I were supported to take part in the physical care of my gran as we wished.

After my grans peaceful passing we were again strongly supported by the nursing staff. They gave us time, tea and we felt like they truly shared our loss.

I can not thank the staff of ward 43 enough.

Dear Mah2019,

Thank you so much for providing feedback at such a sad time for you, following the loss of your Gran. I am glad that at such a difficult time you felt supported and able to participate in you Gran's care, as you had wished.

Your feedback will be passed on to the team in Ward 43. Once again, thank you so much for taking the time to leave feedback.

Kathleen
