"Spartan and dreary"

About: Edgware Community Hospital

(as the patient),

Edgeware Respite at the hospital is a 14 roomed unit where I stayed for a week.  I have multiple sclerosis.  I found that:

The dining room - is a good idea as it allows you to meet other patients but a lot of us are shy about what is wrong with us so we didn't really connect and most people went back to their own room after dining.

Recreation room - a big space it is okay and has a large TV but no other facilities, so unless you like watching television there was nothing to do.

Rooms - are spartan and dreary, again the only thing to occupy you is the TV-I don't like tv.

Weekends: are dreadfully dire with no newspaper, not many staff on duty, not many visitors and feels like no contact with the outside world.

Physiotherapy: expected much more than the half day session per week.

Entertainment - only option is television.

OVERALL;  disappointed with my time there, I am an outgoing person and joyful but I sank into a despair.  I can honestly say I feel like I would have been dead now if I had had to stay there for the three months most people do.  As soon as I was home I was a different person and my spirit lifted.
