Recently I had to have a blood test following my appointment with the midwife. I felt the test was conducted in a very rough manner and I have bruises on the inside of my arm. I have had lots of blood tests but nothing like this has ever happened. I know they said they were very busy and under staffed but I still expect not to end up with a very bruised arm. I have photographic evidence of this.
As I am taking the time to write I would like to add that although some of your A & E staff who treated my daughter may have saved her life, that I do have a complaint about one indcident that happened whilst we were staying on the children's ward.
My daughter had scalding skin syndrome at 7 weeks old, as you can imagine her skin was very sore, cracked and bleeding. The consultant prescribed her skin cream during the first rounds (approx 9am). I kept chasing this up throughout the day, I even offered to go and get it from the pharmacy myself, however at 4pm I was told the paperwork had been lost. We did not receive the cream until gone 5pm which was awful given the condition of my daughter's skin.
I was made to feel like a pest for keep chasing it up and when I mentioned it the next day on the doctor's rounds, I was told "this is the NHS what do you expect?"
Later in the week the parent's bed I was using was taken away and I was told to get someone in to bring me a blow up bed as they could not guarantee it would come back. I understand that patients get priority but these two incidents have made me pay for private health cover.
I would say that some of the nurses who looked after us were brilliant and cannot be faulted for the care they delivered.
