"Disappointed by paediatric ward"

Pretty appalled by the paediatric ward 19/20 in Wishaw General Hospital.

Our son was admitted with bad croup and needed to have steroids and he monitored. Despite being under two years old, we were put in a ward with 4 other much older children. Our son was the only one who needed a cot. We specifically asked if he could have his own room as we knew the unfamiliar environment would lead to a very restless night with a lot of crying. Not fair on him but mostly not fair on the other sick children. We were repeatedly told this wasn’t an option as the private bedrooms were full. 

I think its ridiculous to put a child of that age amongst older children as he is still a baby himself. He indeed did have a very very restless night and cried at the slightest noise - of course, everyone was extremely courteous towards me but I can only imagine how annoying they found our sons crying. 

There also seems to be some kind of rule where you can’t keep your curtains closed. I cannot fathom a reason for this. I was allowed to close them to settle my baby but as soon as he was asleep they would open them again. Thus; letting in the stream of light again. 

Also found it quite concerning that our baby wasn’t given a wristband with his details on it. Every time we met a new dr / nurse they’d ask me his name. 

Whilst I can understand there is a lot going on in the paediatric ward, it is very easy to feel forgotten in the crowd and just to have all concerns disregarded unless you’re actually face to face with your consultant.
