"Team work in Mum's treatment - and a lost wedding ring!"

Mum had repeated painful warfarin related bleeds inside her knee due to a weakness following knee replacement surgery many years before. This led to yet another admission to the orthopaedic and elderly care wards. The range of people involved was amazing and I had noted down some names at the time. 

Dr Tomlinson and staff at Modyrvale Practice for excellent advice when we phoned. 

Martin, head ambulance guy at Shotts and partner for reassurance, pain relief, extra care on manoeuvring downstairs and over road bumps, and searching for Dad's lost wedding ring. Serco staff who pointed out a vacant space when parking was difficult.

Staff in A&E for assessments and tests (and searching for lost ring)  

Student Doctors for doing initial assessment in A&E (especially the young Dr from Mauritius who had just completed Tough Mudder) for taking bloods and pleasant manner. Extra points to him for crawling about under beds looking for lost ring!

Dr Mc?? from Orthopaedics for assessment in A&E and decision to admit.  

X-ray staff and porters.  Haematology for all blood tests. People who juggle beds to find spaces. 

Carole, Ward 18 receiving charge nurse who was exceptionally  professional and caring - in particular for recommending the air mattress idea. 

Naomi ward 16 night shift for listening and reassurance. 

Huge thank you to Margo, ward 16, and all the other nurses and staff for taking time to talk to and care for Mum. 

Occupational therapist Mari ? for her bedside manner and good suggestions. 

Physiotherapists for their support in getting Mum back on her feet at a realistic pace. 

Pharmacist for organising changes to medication. 

Trauma nurse for taking time to answer family’s questions. 

Various doctors and students on rounds. 

Orthopaedic doctor, Mr Howie. Leanne reg nurse who kept us informed.  

Philip, junior Dr and Dr McGregor.

Kitchen staff for meals . Cleaners and domestic staff.

Karen and team from physio who assessed her on stairs before release. 

Mary, nursing auxiliary, who helped us out to the car after discharge. 

Sorry I haven't written this sooner (over a year too late) and didn’t manage to pick up or remember all the names but Mum felt well cared for and said that everyone was fantastic. And that’s coming from an old school nurse, trained in the late 1940s.

Finally, the security staff who logged and searched their stock for the lost ring.

And the happy ending - Dad's ring turned up 2 months after she went home - found in a blue plastic bag that had been used to take home hospital washing! No, me neither - no idea!
