"Birthing centre"

About: Furness General Hospital / Maternity

My best friend was in the birthing centre over the last couple of days, I visited twice in the two days she was there, the staff were barely existent and the staff which appeared were judgemental, unkind and lacked any sort of duty of care. Recently I gave birth at wch and all the staff there were fantastic they checked on us frequently offered us help and advice, they even came for a chat about anything of subject, baring in mind that they were extremely busy, to the point scbu where my son was had to be shut off to New babies as they'd reached their maximum. Barrow on the other hand were far from great, there may be a new birthing center but the staff are absolutely shocking. My friend was left completely alone, she didn't have any support no one checked on her, she had to ask for pain relief all the time, she was told her canulla would be removed at 7am it was past 20:30 before they removed it after being asked all day and told someone would come. No one persevered in helping her breast feed to the point one midwife tried putting the baby against her once then took her away from her and said oh I'll just feed her, which then my friend was in the toilet crying. The staff when they were about were very judgemental on her personal choices. When I visited, the staff were in the office talking rather than checking on People on the ward. I truly believe that this sort of treatment can affect how a new family can feel when going home. My friends were given grief about pillows even though two of the pillows were from home. My friend was left in tears on numerous occasions and her husband very frustrated. I am very disappointed in the service and treatment and definitely think extra training could be used. I myself work in a health care setting and know how important a simple smile can be to the people I am caring for. I would definitely recommend everyone to stay clear from this hospital.
