I was admitted to ward 210 before my surgery for endometriosis the following day. I was greeted by the staff nurse and shown to my room. The staff were very welcoming asking if I needed anything and if I was comfortable. I was very nervous before my operation and the staff were so understanding. The clinical support worked that was on was from the staff bank her name was Astrid and she took very good care of me I found talking to her about the op helped and I felt a bit more at ease. I was happy to know that post op it would be the same nightshift team I had on the night before.
On the day of my op I was met by the team who would be looking after me. Dr Munro was very thorough explaining the procedure and what the plan was. The anaesthetist was lovely and spoke to me about managing my pain post op. I was then met by the recovery nurse who was called Mel. She stayed with me in the anaesthetic room until I was asleep. When I woke Mel was great she did my obs and made sure I was comfortable and in no pain. She sat with me for the short time I was in recovery and spoke with me and kept a close eye.
When I got back up to the ward I was looked after really well by the day staff all the nursing staff were great. Rebecca and Clare are the two nurses I remember from the day shift that looked after me. The staff came to check on me regularly and to ask if I was comfortable. The nurse on nightshift I remember her name was Val and she was so kind she told me at any time during the night if I was sore just to buzz for painkillers or if I needed anything else. Everyone in the ward were so friendly and made the experience of being in hospital a lot easier. I’m so thankful to all the staff who looked after me. You all went above and beyond to help and are a credit to the NHS.
