"Not happy with any of my treatments"

About: Hull Royal Infirmary

I have been under the oral and maxillofacial unit since I was born, as I have a cleft palate. After 2 years of my doctor saying I need braces but not doing anything about it, I finally got them on from being 13-15, since having my braces off, I have suffered with horrendous tooth ache, teeth grinding, and my bottom teeth have moved back to the same position they were before the braces, in my opinion they were not on anywhere near long enough to be effective for the rest of my life, however the doctor was happy with the placement of them. I was given a retainer to wear after my braces were removed however was not informed of how to wear it properly which has caused my teeth to move back. I have been in and out of the unit over the past few years with problems regarding my teeth. I went in to my last appointment in 2017, asking for braces again but as I was 19 at the time nothing was done. I saw a team who were considering jaw surgery on me to help with TMJ (nobody explained to me clearly what TMJ is either, I had to google it). I rejected the jaw surgery in hope that braces would be the other option but even after bringing that subject up, they didn't take it further. I was told to keep wearing my retainer, which is when I was told I should be wearing it throughout the day to get use to it, not when I go to bed, this advice would have been helpful 4 years prior to when I was told. During that appointment is also when I was told yoga should help relieve the pain, I thought the lady was joking when she said that...I do yoga and still in agony everyday. I am 21 now, my bottom teeth are horrible, I don't smile much because of the state of them. I am in constant pain with them, the middle tooth looks and feels like it's about to fall out. The doctor knew me as a patient for most of my life, however I'm not sure he actually knew what to do with me (treatment wise) by that I mean it took him 2 years to decide on my braces in the first place, I had top ones on longer than my bottom ones, even though my bottom ones were worse and needed more time to adjust and move into the desired place. I am not AT ALL happy with the treatment I have received for the past 7 years with this unit and the totally UNHELPFUL treatments and advice. I'm 21, stuck with teeth that aren't straight and can't get braces on the NHS, so I'll have to be paying god knows how much to go privately to sort out the mess I believe they made. I have no way of being referred to the unit again and I highly doubt they would consider treatment again on my teeth. So thank you for the waste of time.
