"Wonderful service from Endoscopy at Hammersmith..."

Received a truly wonderful and personal service from the Endoscopy team at Hammersmith Hospital. From my arrival to Endoscopy to the time of my discharge I had received a professional and caring service from Reception, members of the nursing team and the Endoscopist. The Endoscopist was a particularly skilled senior nurse and knew exactly what to do when there were some issues arising in carrying out the Colonoscopy because of scar tissue in my abdomen. I was really not looking forward to the procedure however the Endoscopy team had made my visit a pleasant and pain free experience. A lovely nurse had offered me tea and biscuits after the procedure as I had not eaten for some 30 hours in preparation of the Colonoscopy. My experience at Hammersmith Hospital had really made me appreciative of the wonderful work of the National Health Service and Imperial NHS Trust towards protecting my health. The Endoscopy team had worked so well together and I really felt in safe hands throughout my visit. My only suggestions would be that female patients may feel a little more relaxed in the care of an all female nursing team rather than a mix of male and female nurses in the Endoscopy Unit. Also no images could be taken of my Colonoscopy because the Scorpio image capture system had not been working at the time of my visit.

Finally the diet recommended to be followed by patients in preparation of the Colonoscopy should include a greater range of foods suitable for vegetarians particularly as other NHS Trusts tend to have a wider diet sheet of low residue foods on their recommended diet sheets for patients. However on the main issues regarding the quality of the Endoscopy service I had found this to be a well-managed, integrated, professional and caring service which I would not hesitate to recommend to others. Well done Hammersmith Hospital!
