About: St Mary's Hospital / Gynaecology

WARD 62 and CONSULTANTS..JUST EXCELLENT/BRILLIANT. THE DOCTOR AND HER ANESTHETIST PLEASE TAKE A BIG BOW , a big round of applause rightly deserved. Frankly having had considerable experience with the medical profession

I have to say I have never seen anything quite like the detail and care which was given to my partner anywhere,, especially to this standard. The pre op and post op care was a pro active and not a reactive approach, from taking a thorough new consent process, to risks and risk management and the all benefits, her opinion and instruction was paramount., this approach was displayed from both consultants,, The thoroughness both prior to operation and post operation was breath taking , regular visits on the ward from her consultant surgeon, and even from the anaesthetist( which I have never known of before), just outstanding and humbling, a breath of fresh air. ALL care, attention and consideration was given especially to her extreme anxieties, it made an unpleasant operation more palatable and they both did everything to make it a more tolerant procedure, nobody could have asked for more, it made me tearful at times the care which was given from all, even from the small detail of contacting me after the operation which I was grateful for and put me at ease. Please tell the doctor,NICE WORK,,a neat scar( considering 30 clips worth in her case) fantastic. Thereafter the nurses on ward 62 were fabulous, she was very lucky to have some skilful and fantastic nurses who attended upon her, every need addressed in a timely manner even though they were pulled in every direction time wise, nothing was too much for them and they took any health concern seriously. The Mc Millan nurses were truly fantastic and invaluable both whilst in hospital and after care , the care displayed towards my partner and even to my myself and our needs were outstanding, they were invaluable as a liaison between all practitioners too.SO far so good, god forbid if I were to be in that situation would I pick this doctor, this anaesthetist and ward 62 myself, from what I have seen to date ABSOLUTELY.

Having used private care most of my life my eyes have been well and truly opened with the standard of care in every respect that is afforded to those who are particularly unwell in this particular NHS hospital, the only draw back on this issue was visiting, if family were from out of area or had commitments, unfortunately little or no consideration was given on that front, however if there had to be a trade off on that aspect it was worth it. Feel free to show this feedback to anyone, All I can say for anyone anxious or concerned about any prospective operation and care from this hospital, all I have to say is just WOW .

Thank you for your positive comments posted on the NHS website regarding the care you and your partner received whilst on Ward 62 at Saint Mary’s Hospital.

It was very kind of you to take the time to write and compliment the staff as it is good to receive positive feedback which reflects the hard work and dedication of our staff. The Trust has introduced a Behavioural framework called ‘Together Care Matters’ within which all members of the nursing and medical teams practice so it was reassuring to read that the nursing, medical and support teams providing care were able to make you both feel supported, cared for and reassured at such a difficult time. I can assure you that we have passed on your thoughts to Dr Sean Burns, Clinical Head of Division for Gynaecology and Mrs Angela Williams, Lead Nurse for Gynaecology who will be pleased to share your feedback with the consultant teams, theatre staff and Sister Hadley, Ward manager for Ward 62.

Mrs Karen Connolly

Chief Executive Officer Saint Mary’s Hospital
