Apart from pain and being away from the familar (home), the worst of being in hospital is your lack of independence if added to that your dignity is ignored then your whole hospital experience is just horrible.
I had a TKR in the heat wave July 2019, overall the staff were lovely and even though run off their feet still stopped for little chats now and again ( I was lucky to get a side room), however at night some not all of the staff were rude and worse than that didn't bother to talk; asking for a bedpan first time isn't nice, especially for the first time and you are in a great deal of pain. I had staff ' GRUNT ' & 'POINT' 'turnover left' 'turnover to the right' and in the middle of the night a MALE nurse wiping ones rear (I am a lady of 57yrs) is very embarrasing and wrong especially alone in a side room. It was bad enough having bloodpressure done every hour, a male nurse standing at foot of the bed suddenly turn the light on grunting pointing to the BP machine is pretty frightening to be honest.. For the most night staff barely managed to speak or smile there was a complete lack of care, understanding and empathy If I could I would have walked out of there.
"For the most if you need to be in hospital I'd..."
