"Praise & Concern"

About: Cumberland Infirmary

(as a relative),

My story is to praise the amazing work that our NHS provides. Even under great deals of pressure the staff that I have encountered go above and beyond to call of duty to care for for our relatives and loved ones. We’d be lost without you!!

The cleaning of the hospital areas on the other hand needs addressed as doesn’t appear up to scratch in comparison to other hospitals I have visited. I watched the cleaner on duty cleaning, well if you could call it cleaning!
My only comment is when I was in visiting a relative, the nurse in charge was not clearly identifiable to pass my comments onto. It turned out there was a senior nurse on duty but they looked the same as the her more junior colleague. Should your senior staff nurses not have a different uniform to those more junior members of staff so they are visible to both patient and staff? I feel if they are leading an area they should be identifiable so that any praise or concerns can be passed on.

Dear MarcB

Thank you for getting in touch with us via the Care Opinion website with such a positive review for the amazing work you have witnessed by NHS staff.

I agree that our staff do go above and beyond in their duty of care and I am sure that those who read your kind words will be delighted to know that you recognise the care that they provide.

With regards to the cleaning I will pass your review to the managers in charge of ward cleaning so that they are aware…

I am sorry that you were unable to visually identify the nurse in charge when you were visiting a relative in hospital but I do hope someone was able to tell you who this was on that occasion.

As a Trust we are proactive in suggestions for improvement and it is by hearing about the experiences and opinions of patients and relatives that we are helped to improve our services. I will share your review with the appropriate teams.

Best regards,

Alison S-D

Hi Alison,

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my comments.

I can’t praise enough the nursing staff that I encountered. Even though they were clearly busy and understaffed, they always had time for a smile and to make sure everything was okay.

I appreciate that you will pass on the comments to cleaning managers, I hope to see some changes the next time I visit to the standard of cleaning as it’s clearly letting things down.

I was able to speak with the nurse in charge during my visit after asking who that was. I just felt that they should be identifiable as the nurse in charge without having to ask.

Thanks Again,

Marc
