I cannot praise the staff of the nightingale ward and the Margaret centre enough. A relative of mine was admitted and as his next of kin that lives abroad the doctors answered all my queries, phoned me for joint decision making and were simply marvellous. I am involved in teaching communication skills to undergraduate health professionals and if had I been grading these staff I would be giving them an A plus plus. My relative was treated with care and compassion and kindness and he was a challenging patient in many ways. After he had thrown tea over the floor a student nurse wiped it up whilst chatting to him and to me with understanding and patience. The Margaret centre was on the next level, the lady gave me special time that I needed and shared at a level that was frankly remarkable and so appreciated. She deserves a commendation!!. The doctors in the margaret centre were also supportive, gave me time to ramble and were so empathetic and caring to my relative and to me. I was very touched by their approach. No text book listening or empathy here, but real genuineness, compassion and honesty. I appreciated that so much. Living abroad you hear so much negativity about the NHS, that in my experience is totally untrue. From the person who delivered the food, nurses, doctors, care co-ordinators and finally the borough who assisted me with documentation and is still assisting me., you all were shining examples of NHS values, respect and dignity, quality of care, compassion, professionalism, and working together for the benefit of the person.
I cannot commend you all enough. Thank you.
