"Started well, but went downhill"

About: Lister Hospital

Arrived for oral appointment, lovely, supportive and sincere. In and out in 20 Minutes could not believe it and lots of reassurance for a worried person.

Sent for blood test, was told 45 min wait, as needle phobic and panic attacks sat outside to remain calm, returned after 40 minutes but another 45 minutes and nerves in shreds, heart beating fast and starting to panic.

Asked where I was and was told two more.

Had to go outside couldn’t breath hyperventilating if they had been honest and said 2 hours I would have had the choice to go to my doctors, it’s now left me back to square one re needing any needle related op’s.

I know there busy, but when a patient informs you of their phobia and issues it should not be treated lightly.

Had to leave in a very poor state and have lost all faith and trust in Lister.

Not a positive or good experience and communication needs to be considered in their future training so people whom need honesty are told and given choices rather than being left, forgotten resulting in upset, embarrassment and backwards steps linked to panic/anxiety attacks.

Thank you for your feedback. Whilst we're pleased that you were happy with your oral surgery appointment, we're truly sorry that your experience of the phlebotomy service fell short of what you needed.

We will share your comments with both teams, and meanwhile if you would like to talk about what happened, or how things might be improved for any future appointments, please feel free to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison (PALs) team at pals.enh-tr@nhs.net.
