About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as a relative),

On Monday I conveyed my wife to the Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline in order that she could attend the Orthopaedic Surgery Clinic at 1500 hours. We arrived timeously at the hospital at 1440 hours and managed to find a parking space in the hospital car park opposite the main entrance.

My wife's appointment was with the Orthopaedic Consultant -Dr Nidadavolu and involved the problems she has been having with her right shoulder. In the past my wife has had steroid injections in this shoulder but they only last for a few weeks and then any pain / discomfort returns. About 1520 hours Mr. Nidadavolu thoroughly examined my wife's right shoulder and decided not to arrange for her to be given another steroid injection at this time. He has organised for her to see a physiotherapist, preferably at the Randolph Wemyss Hospital in Buckhaven and she now awaits the relevant appointment letter. The hospital visit was then finished off by a refreshment in the cafe and a drive home.

The whole visit went well and the only minor issue was the 20 minute delay for my wife in seeing the Consultant who was obviously a busy man that day. Before leaving the hospital I visited a toilet opposite the cafe where I noticed a cleaning record sheet on the inside of the door. Last entry showed that someone last cleaned this toilet at 7. 00 pm three days before. I reported this matter to the Reception Desk Clerk who agreed to resolve the issue.

Dear Hector 52,

Thank you for posting your feedback after your wife attended the Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline recently.

Your wife was assessed in the orthopaedic clinic 20 minutes later than her scheduled appointment, therefore please thank your wife for her patience during this time.

I would also like to thank you for escalating to the reception staff your observation, that the cleaning record sheets which are placed on the inside of the toilets had not been completed for three days. As a result of your post on care opinion, I have discussed this matter with the domestic supervisor and we also jointly shared your feedback at the Queen Margaret Hospital morning safety huddle one day last week. Please be assured that the importance of always recording when the toilets are checked and cleaned has been shared with the domestic staff and this will be monitored closely by the domestic supervisors.

Regards to you and your wife

Arlene
