"I cannot find the words to thank the staff enough"

About: The Knoll Hospital / Older people's care (inpatient)

(as a relative),

My father was transferred from BGH to The Knoll Hospital at the end of June 2019.  Unfortunately, his condition (anaplastic brain tumour) deteriorated very rapidly and he sadly passed away in July 2019.  During his time at The Knoll, the care my father received was exceptional - the hospital Dr is the most caring and thoughtful Dr I've come across for some time (not just in terms of his patients but the time and kindness shown to patients family/carers is just amazing), the nursing staff are simply wonderful (I was told by one nurse "she was 'just' doing her job" … if only she realised how 'just' doing her job impacted so positively on the relatives of her patients - outstanding women in their workplace!  The nurses not only cared for my father but they always made sure my Mother, my dad's family and myself were okay as much as possible under the circumstances - that kindness will never be forgotten.  The respect and dignity shown when my father did eventually pass away, whilst feeling surreal, was incredible.  Despite the sad circumstances, the overall care and advice provided at The Knoll Hospital was truly outstanding.  I cannot find the words to thank the staff enough - they were all just fantastic.

Thank you so much for taking the time to feedback on the care that your father received at The Knoll Hospital, we greatly appreciate and value your kind words. I will certainly ensure all the team including our Doctor see this story. As healthcare professionals we all understand what a privilege it is to nurse patients and support families at the most difficult time in their lives and if we can make that time a little easier by treating patients as we would wish for our own families then we feel immense pride.

Knowing that we have provided care which leaves a lasting memory for families is really important to the team and we are so reassured that after your father passed away the team continued to show the kindness and compassion of which we are so proud.

I thank you again for taking the time to write this story during a difficult time for you and your extended family.

Kind regards,

Caroline Burgess
