"Day surgery visit and felt well cared for"

About: East Surrey Hospital / General surgery

I went in for planned hernia repair, and found surgical admissions very easy using the clear directions on my admission paperwork and by following the signs. Upon arrival I was admitted in by welcoming staff and waited in a nice big lounge area. After a few minutes a staff member came in and addressed us all on what the plan was for those that were day surgery as well as those that were stopping the night. I was then seen by the various members of staff to go through my case and what to expect as well as to check over my information. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. I was 1st on list and was then taken to theater where again I met a new team member who got me all hooked up to the devices and bits needed, again very friendly and chatty. A quick friendly chat and joke with the anesthtist before sleep time. from what I remember of recovery I was cold and staff quickly put a bear hugger on me and made sure I was comfortable. I then went to the surgery center to properly wake up and be monitored. Like everywhere I had been staff here were friendly and on the ball. My staff nurse was wonderful and the 2 HCA working my bay were kind and helpful. I didn't feel rushed and when I felt ready I was assisted to stand and have a little walk before they made phone calls for me to be collected. My staff nurse then was going for her break whilst I was waiting to be collected but she popped in to tell me this and also say goodbye and wish me luck.

I felt the cleanliness of everywhere I went on site was exceptional and the 2 Facilities staff I saw were working very hard to maintain these levels.
